History of Zoom Radio
Zoom Radio was founded on 10.23.05 with the intention on providing unlimited internet radio for all its fans. The very first show was composed on a standard cable internet connection by zoom himself. This was before we even had regsitered the actual domain. And we had no website or anything at the time besides a signal IRC channel that sit on mIRCaddict network. The channel was our only form of communication to make requests and post news.
I do not remember the exact date but the very first Zoom Radio website was created with wordpress and was hosted by Zoom Hosting. Which at the time was ran by zoom as well. The website was stable for a little while but then due to financial reasons the hosting company went under. Therefore the website was lost. There was no backups of it so we had to start again from scratch.
Then thats when one of my good friends Brian (Ox64), had lent me some space to setup a temporary forum. He had also registered the domain zoomradio.net to assign to it. This is when we had started to use A phpBB based website. It was a nice and professional forum and thats when the very first Zoom Radio logo was designed.
From this point is what started the growth of Zoom Radio. We had many users registered and fans that listened in 24/7. Then a second website had been opened to keep track of network news. Again we used wordpress which was a blog type of website. No one really went to the site so it didn't last very long and was merged with the forum at the time.
The very first DJ to work for Zoom Radio was again my friend Brian (Ox64). This is when we started to do actual talk shows because he had the provided equipment to do so. We also would use applications like Skype or Yahoo Messenger to put people on the air. There was no doubt though that Zoom Radio was different. We just didn't play random music that usally would annoy people. Everything was pretty much request based. If you wanted to hear a specific song we would get it and play it in the order it was received no questions asked. This type of dedicated to our fans made our userbase grow even more.
Soon we expanded to the 3D digital world of Second Life. This was a great opportunity for Zoom Radio because the virtual land could hold a specific URL stream and play the music to who ever visited. This led to us actually building a Zoom Radio club so that people could hang out and enjoy the music.
Now that we had established a large userbase, website, IRC channel, and Second Life Group we had nothing to lose. This is when I met Saturn. At the time he had his own show (Spaced Out with Saturn) which continues to be an awesome show. He was offered a job at Zoom Radio to DJ and thats when A phenomenal increase in the userbase began. We had no doubt that Saturn was a huge asset to the company.
We had started A second IRC channel on his network (JetIRC) so we could stay in touch. This led to A server link of zoom-radio.* to the network. While this server was only running on A standard cable internet connection it provided users a good experience. This went on for a little while but eventually the server had been delinked due to requirement changes on the network.
During this period there was a huge drought. We lost users, DJs, and respect due to Saturn officially leaving the Zoom Radio Team for reasons that cannot be said here. We closed the channel on JetIRC and moved back to mIRCaddict.
I'm sure there is more to be said but this is all i can remember for now. Now Zoom Radio is proudly sponsored by Bittraffic Hosting and we have 3 IRC channels currently. One on mIRCaddict which is the home of Zoom Radio. One on EFnet and another on Ablivion which has officially opened again. We will continue to strive on providing you the best Zoom Radio experience possible.
Thanks to all the fans that are regulars to Zoom Radio!
